Farmers Market – June 2010
04-07-10

Yet again at the end of another month our church readily snapped up the chance to make some money in the aid of helping our young people to fulfill their desires to take part in camps and events that they themselves may not be able to fund. This time we got a little more creative and took advantage of the Lemon season, as the trees were seriously fulfilling the command to be fruitful and multiply. So in order not to let it go to waste, we adopted a tree for the usage of CTMI/Harvest Church and we set up a table named ‘All Things Lemon’. In keeping with the name, we truly did make all things lemon… we had lemon meringue, lemon curd, lemon poppy seed muffins, lemonade, lemon concentrate, lemon cake, etc, etc on sale. Although I thought we were being pretty unique, we ended up having quite a bit of competition with those who seemed to have had the same idea with their bursting lemon trees. But all things considered, we ended up doing pretty well in our sales and at the same time having a wonderful time in putting the project together by working as a team and building relationships amoungst our church, CTMI and the community. At the end of the day, with most of our delicious products sold we could say that we had reached our goal in helping some more youth to fulfill their desires to attend a youth camp or an up coming event, the left over’s were packed up and saved to be sold at church the next day. Ever faithful was our boerewors and steak roll stand! What can we say… what event does not go down well without a ‘lekker’ boereowors or steak roll to fill the hungry stomachs at lunch time, or even before the clock strikes one. With the tantalizing smells coming from the braai area, I always seem to cave in quite some time before lunch and end up purchasing a pre-lunch and who can resist coming away with that unique braai scent clinging to your clothes and hair … so lovely. But with this on the go, it adds every little bit to our goal of fundraising for camps, events and projects. What was not sold, was also saved and then re-sold the next day at our church gathering, which made for a good time for fellowship and growth as a family, We are looking at a number of ways to fund raise on an ongoing basis, not only for the youth, but for many other projects and needs within our church and community. Please if you are available and would like to be a part of this vital team within the church we would love your help. Please contact either, Dave Mitchell, Brighton Charama or Glenda Lennox.
